Will my TV work with HDMI to RCA cables?

  • I'm getting a Blu-Ray player soon, but I have an old TV with only one audio input (white) and one video input (yellow). I realize this would defeat the purpose of a Blu-Ray player because the quality wouldn't be good, but it's just until I get a new TV. So if I were to find an HDMI to RCA cable, would it work?

HDMI is a 19-pin digital connection. The yellow composite video input jack is a single-pin analog video input. They are not compatible and you can't get an adapter for going HDMI to RCA. Just use the yellow composite video output until you get an HDTV that accepts the HDMI input.

Unfortunately, the only way to downscale a high definition, digital, HDMI signal to an analog, composite signal is to use a downscaler like this one. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=hdmi+to+composite&cid=6104765630888762006&ei=nkE-TP7uF4OWwAWVqZSKDg&sa=title&ved=0CAcQ8wIwADgA#p Even more unfortunate is that this is pretty much the cheapest one I have ever seen on the market. My question is, why are you getting a Blu-Ray player if your TV doesn't support high definition? That's the primary bennefit to Blu-Ray players. The other bennefit being better audio. But a scaled down Blu-Ray picture will look no better than a standard DVD player image. So why waste the extra money?

Yes, it will work, but like you said the quality won't be all that great. If it's just a quick fix until you get the upgrade, you just need to get RCA to RCA cables. You can find them at Hosa Tech under the Analog Video category - http://www.hosatech.com/category/325899/Analog_Video
