What is the best media player?

What is the BEST and most affordable Digital Media Player?

  • I recently purchased the Micca MPLAY-HD 1080p Full-HD Digital Media Player from here http://www.amazon.com/Micca-MPLAY-HD-Full-HD-Digital-Realtek/dp/B002XVBAKI/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i I would like to know if anyone has any personal experience with a digital media player that is better. This particular player is capable of playing a ton of file formats and features such as: Powerful 1080p Video Player: AVI, MKV, TS, TP, TRP, M2TS, M2T, MPG, MP4, M4V, MOV, VOB, ISO, IFO, DAT, WMV, ASF, RM, RMVB, FLV Wide Range Video Codec Support: H.264/AVC, VC-1(WMV9-HD), MPEG1/2/4, DivX, Xvid, RV8/9/10 Audio Format Support: MP3, WMA, WAV, RM, OGG, AAC, M4A, FLAC, APE Audio Codecs: MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV, AAC, FLAC, AC3, DTS, True-HD, DTS-MA/HR Supports USB Drives, USB Hard Drives, SD/SDHC Flash Memory Cards, FAT32 and NTFS, up to 2TB I haven't been able to actually use the player because a cable that is specific to this item was missing from the box, so I have to send it back, wait for my refund and then purchase it again, so I thought that before I make the final decision I would see if anyone out there has a better digital media player solution. Thanks!! Courtney D Bostdorff

The words "Best" and "Most affordable" never go hand in hand. You either need to look for the best OR the most affordable.

The Western Digital TV Live has a good reputation. One of the cool parts is WD seems pretty good to update the firmware every few months so it is a supported product.

I'd say the one you picked looks pretty good! I like that it can play dvd iso, which should mean it can play a dvd backup with menus. Surround sound output is nice too and the remote looks good. Too bad it was missing the cable. It would be nice if they could just give you the one missing cable. Was it one like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/320787374292?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 You could connect it using a different method (component or hdmi instead of composite depending on what your tv has) but you really should get all the parts you're supposed to get. I recently bought a cheaper fewer-featured one - no iso playback, no s/pdif out. I knew that when I bought it, I just wanted something to play mainly mp4, mkv and flv with good subtitle support. Some people want one with networking so they can stream video from their computers. Not necessary for me, I'm fine with putting files on a flash drive or portable hard drive and walking a few steps :) So I guess the one to pick depends on the features you want. I remember it wasn't too long ago that players like these were really expensive, they've really come down in price.
