Why does only one of my surround sound speakers crackle at low volumes?

Hooked up dvd/surround sound system to pc and only one speakers works?

  • i hooked up a old dvd/surround sound system to my pc via a 3.5mm to rca adapter and only one speaker works. i did 2.1 rather than 5.1 because that's all i need.i plugged the 3.5mm end to the front speaker port on the pc and rca ends to the vcr in. when i set source to vcr only the left speaker and sub works. i tested both speakers with a battery they both work. also put a cd in the dvd/surround sound system both speakers work but not when i switch to vcr. am i doing something wrong?

  • Answer:

Try hooking up the 3.5mm cable to the back or rear speaker port to see if it makes a difference. Is the VCR a stereo VCR? If not then that is your problem. Also the 3.5mm cable should have two stripes on it indicating that it is a stereo cord. (It sounds like both of these are OK though in order to get a DVD to play in stereo). Big Question!! Do you have the PC hooked up directly into the "AUX" of your VCR? Or do you have the set-up into the VCR directly. Sounds like a direct connection. OK, hook up PC to VCR in and VCR out to speakers. Re-check connections and see if you get a better result. And be sure to check the power cables of the "powered speakers". Hope This Helps!
