I have no sound on my computer.

What is the most updated way to hook up a TV, Surround Sound, and Computer to TV?

  • Right now I have a cable wire coming in the house which goes to my cable box. From the cable box i have an HDMI cable that goes to the TV. Also out of the cable box, I have a set of RCA jacks going to the surround sound unit(which doesn't have any HDMI ports). Now, here is the dilemma. I want to use this same TV as my computer monitor, so I'm thinking I should take an HDMI cable from the computer, to the TV. The problem that I'm thinking I'll have by doing it this way is that the computer sound will not be hooked to the surround sound and will only be using the TV factory speakers being hooked up this way. How will I have the surround sound broadcast my computer sound without compromising sound quality? Cable box only has 1 HDMI port(out) TV has many HDMI (ins) Surround sound has no HDMI ports

  • Answer:

i assume that your RCA jacks are attached from the cable box to the speaker's amplifiers am i correct? If i am correct then your amplifier should have a RCA section labeled "auxiliary" you connect a normal RCA cable to that slot and since you can not connect RCA cables to your computer you need an adapter that is either female RCA to male 3.5mm(female is the end with the holes and male is the end with the plug) or female RCA to female 3.5mm and use a standard male 3.5mm to male 3.5mm audio cable to attach the adapter to your computer. depending on what kind of amplifier you have you might have to press the "aux" button to be able to receive the sound from the computer.
