Which DVD players are compatible with burnt DVD's?

Help!! My DVDs wont play on other DVD players?

  • To all of you experts out there, there is possibly a really simple answer. A few years ago I took quite a few family videos on my camcorder. I then transferred them onto VHS tapes and could watch them anywhere. Then when tapes were hardly used, I re-recorded them onto DVDs. I did this by playing the tape in the normal way (so it could be watched on the tele) and at the same time recorded it onto a blank DVD. These DVDs are -RW. We have watched these DVDs many times playing them on this recorder. However we have now acquired a couple more recorders and I have found that these DVDs wont play on them. It just states the disc cannot be found or similar wording. My daughter has tried these discs on her own DVD player and they wont play on hers either, just on the one that we have. I am only guessing that I need to get these DVDs re-recorded in a different format so they will play on any recorder. I am worried that if this one player that we CAN play them on breaks down, we wont be able to watch these DVDs at all then. I'd be really grateful for any suggestions. They wont play on my computer either. I am willing to buy a machine that will convert DVDs from one format to another but I dont know where to start. Thanks.

  • Answer:

You should finish the recording process by finalising the disk. It may not be too late to do this in the device you recorded them in. Generally each recorder uses it's own file system to allow in recorder edits and only writes the DVD standard when finalised
