Need help with my surround sound system.

Need help with surround sound stereo system.?

  • Hello, so I recently received a new stereo system from my father, it includes a sub as well as six individual speakers. However, for some reason only two of the speakers are producing sound. I have checked each speaker to make sure the each one is functional, it's just that when I play music nothing is getting channeled into the other five speakers. The sub has a red, white, yellow, green, black inputs for the individual speakers, and only the black input is producing sound. So I was wondering if there's anyway to test if the other inputs work and why no sound tracks use more than two speakers? Thank you!

  • Answer:

Music is usually in stereo - 2-channels so 2 speakers. To get stereo sound to output in surround, try turning on the system's Dolby Pro Logic (or Pro Logic II). This can give you surround effects from a stereo source; works even better with a tv show with a "Dolby surround" stereo track. It isn't true surround in the sense that it isn't 6-8 discrete channels as you'd get from a movie with surround sound, but the effect can still be good. If the same thing happens when you do play a movie with surround sound then make sure all the speakers are connected properly, and like Jain said, check that it's set to surround mode. You'll have to also check that the player (if it's separate) is set to output multi-channel sound through its digital connector (s/pdif - either coaxial or optical) or hdmi if that's how you have it connected. For testing, there are video clips you can download with a person saying "left-front, left-right...", etc. to make sure each speaker is connected right.

Other answers

Check the 'Surround Sound' mode in your Sound System unit. This must be a in multi-channel mode; like: 5 channel, DTS, Dolby, Dolby PL2 or something like this. If it is in stereo mode, only 2 front speakers will work. Provide me the model number of your system, I can tell you exactly.

Sounds like you need an additional receiver. More power.
