This is an issue i have been having for quite a while now and i have done a lot of research as to why i can't output surround sound while watching tv but i can while i'm watching a dvd or have a ps3 plugged in. I too have a Samsung 32" LED TV and a Samsung surround sound system and so far i have found that only the two front speakers output sound while watching tv. I have an HDMI plugged from the surround sound into the TV and also a optical (toslink) cable. I have found using different modes on the surround sound doesn't make a difference apart from one mode called Matrix mode but this only shares the sound across the speakers resulting in a flat and a below par sound so i just use stereo mode which is crisper even though its just from the front two speakers. I have tried all different connections like you have and i can't get them to output to every speaker and sound good so i resulted in plugging extra speakers into the ones that work at the front and spreading them around the room (plugging wires into the back and splitting the sound) some say this is a bad idea but it seems to be alright so far. I have read though if you have Sky+ HD (the new black box) which i have in my front room (surround is in my bedroom don't ask why) that the Sky box has an optical port which you can plug a toslink into a surround sound unit. One thing that has to be remembered is that most programs on television aren't made or filmed in Dolby Digital Surround Sound so even if you have all the necessary equipment you won't hear it from all the speakers unlike films and playstation/xbox games which are! From the sky guide you can see by pressing info which programs have surround sound by the two letters DD in the top right hand corner of the info box! I hope this helps with any uncertainties because it can be quite a complex issue and one that isn't explained well by manufactures of TV's or Surround Sounds!

Those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them or for upgrading. The only way for you to get sound through the system is if it has an optical audio input. You connect an optical audio cable from the tv to the home theater system. Leaving everything else connected the way you have it. Keep in mind that not all tv programs have surround sound, only those tv program with the Dolby Digital Logo will have surround sound. Hope this will help you out.

thats the problem with home cinema in a box they are RUBBISH, you will be lucky to connect anything to it,, you should have bought a proper AV RECEIVER and build the system around that atleast you could add a tv, cd player,, blu-ray player, ps3 etc etc etc with ease, with a home cinema in a box you cant

for tv, either audio out from tv to audio in on surround , you will need to change the speaker setting on tv, or audio out from cable or sat box to audio in on surround(recommended). hope this helps.

You have to connect the audio cables (audio out from tv then audio in on player). You also have to change the source to tv. On my player I can choose from the ff choices: tv, aux, dvd, and tuner (just a hint).

You need to connect an optical toslink cable from the HDTV to the Panasonic HTIB unit leave all other connections the same.....
