How do I connect a dvd home system to a receiver?

I need help connnecting my Home Theater System: TV, DVD, Receiver, Cable Box, & Game System.?

  • I have HDMI hook-ups on everything. I'm just not sure what cables connect to what in order for all sounds (tv,cable,dvd/cd,game system) to play thru the receiver for home theater. Can someone help???

  • Answer:

It depends on what you are doing and what inputs you have where and where you want the sounds to come from. I would assume your tv has an output to run to the reciever, which you will most likely wanna use. whether you run the sounds from the other stuff to the tv or reciever depends on whether you ever want to be able to hear that device from the tv speakers, and what inputs you have available.

All you need to do is to follow the color of the connectors (cables). There are three colors: White, Red and Yellow. "White" and "Red" are for respectively Left and Right Audio, while Yellow is for Video. Just follow this rule for all the devices: TV, DVD player, PSX, etc... If there are several plugs with the same color, then use the first plug.

If it is a fairly new receiver run HDMI cables from everything to the receiver and then one HDMI cable from the receiver's output to the TV set. If it is an older receiver you will have to run separate video cables to the TV set and digital audio cables to the receiver.
