My surround sound yamaha reciever won't display anything on my TV?
-
Well I hooked up my PS3 to my Yamaha Receiver and then my Yamaha to my TV. I set the source's for the receiver to AV5 because that's where I plugged in my PS3. Then the Yamaha is plugged into Input AV2 on the TV and the same cable is plugged into AV Out on the reciever. The TV initially says "Check signal cable" but when I plug it in the error message changes saying "Check connected device's power, cable connection, and source selection" and then my speakers start humming (gently nothing to big) . The TV also recognizes that the source has something plugged into it but no sound or screen is displayed. Can you please help, I've been at this for 3 days now. ( I have LCD 55 inch Samsung TV.)(Model Number of TV is LN55C630K1F) Yamaha model number is RX-V465.

Answer:
I need to know what kind of cables you are using to hook your PS3 up to the receiver and what cable your using to hook your receiver up to your TV. If you're using component cables for the PS3 and an HDMI cable for your TV, then thats your problem. Your receiver doesn't upconvert. Meaning if you're using component (Red/Blue/Green) to hook up your PS3, you would need the same kind of cable to run to your TV.

What kind of cables does the PS3 use? Component? HDMI? Video cables should go from the PS3 to the TV. Audio cables should go from PS3 to receiver.

The best way is to connect the PS3 directly to the tv using HDMI cable and then connecting an optical cable from the tv to your receiver. Hope this will help you out.

is your receiver set to on screen display?
The reciever should be the brains of your Home Theater setup. All components should be connected to it. This makes video switching much easier. First, get rid of those composite (yellow, white, red) cables you're using (AV5 and AV2). The most you'll get is standard def and stereo sound. Purchase (2)HDMI cables. This is much easier to use and will get you 1080p video and DTS-HD digital sound all in one cable. One from PS3 to Yamaha, then one to Samsung. Note: some recievers with HDMI capabilities will not capture audio from HDMI (passthru) and an optical cable may still be needed. Check manual or call Yamaha.
