What are some DVD recorders with component input and output?

Can I connect my DVD player with a component output to a VGA input for my Projector?

  • I have a Yamaha DVD player with S-Video and Component Video outputs. My Sony Projector has both an S-Video and a VGA input. Naturally, I can put S-Video out on my DVD player to S-Video in to my projector. Can I put Component Video outputs from my DVD player to the VGA input on my Projector. If so, would I need just a cable with an adaptor or some kind of box to convert?

  • Answer:

Many of the projectors will accept either RGB analog or Component using the VGA connection. Check your manual and you should be fine. You can get a 3 wire to VGA cable for around $25 at any computer or hi-end electronic store. You can also use the 4 or 5 wire version but use only the Red Green and Blue cables (leave the other 2 disconnected). If your projector only accepts RGB then you will need something to convert the component to RGB. If so ask another questions as it is a little more complicated (an expensive) but it is unlikely that you projector will not support it. What model is it?
