How do I burn a movie that will work in my dvd player?

If I put a movie on DVD-R disk will it play on my DVD player?

  • I want to burn a movie but I'm not sure if it will work when I put it in my DVD player because usually proper DVDs bought in the shops have menus and stuff. How can I make it so that it plays? Is there a special software program?

EXCELLENT QUESTION! Its going to come down to the DVD model itself. Some newer ones WILL play a DVD-R, while others will not. This usually translates into when you bought it and how much it cost, but not necessarily. Older DVD players (more than 2 years old) will definitely NOT play that format. As the first answerer mentioned, a DVD recorder/player will naturally play a home-recorded (or DVD-R) disc. And as far as software goes, YES, there ARE several around that allow you to format your work into chapters and such. Apple's iDVD is really good for this...easy to use, creates discs that are playable on more machines, etc. And if you're PC-based, there are lots of software suites to choose from that you can do this with, too.
