Whats the best hookup to use from hd dvd recorder to hd plasma?

• hi i am wondering what would be the best way to hook up my hd 42" samsung plasma tv to my hd lg dvd recorder 5.1 cinema surround sound system.should i use the thick scart cable provided because i know i will get that lovely 5.1 channel surround sound or invest in a hdmi cable,will the hd cable still carry the 5.1 sound i love or is that just for a better picture?or go for comps?have heard hd cables are good but do not want to lose the 5.1 sound.also will i be able to hook up another dvd player to my lg dvd recorder and and make backup copies of my original dvds,if so what cables will i need?any advice would be great on both questions,thanks

  It sounds like you are talking about an integrated surround system with a DVD recorder built in. If so it doesn't matter which connection you use to send video to the TV the sound will still be 5.1. If your DVD player has an HDMI output for 1080 upconversion then use it. DVD copyright regulations prevent upscaling higher that 480p unless you are using HDMI to connect because it supports the copyright protection. If the DVD recorder is a separate unit from the receiver portion you need to have it connected to the receiver with a digital audio cable. Recording from another DVD player is not supposed to work but sometimes it does. It will probably mess up the image if you do and it will definately NOT record the disk in it's entirety. You would be limited to recording a stereo soundtrack and not the 5.1. The only way to do that is on a computer.
