How do I connect my DVD recorder to Direct TV?

How do I best connect old CRT TV (compositve leads) to receiver, DVD HDD recorder & Foxtel.?

• Anything I do creates problems. I currently record foxtel and TV programs through the TVs AV1 and watch Fotel without needing a DVD recorder on the TVs AV3. But if I tape a tv program on AV1 and then switch to AV3 I get picture from foxtel or other TV channel but sound from the program I am recording. On my foxtel there are two scarf plugs - one of them splits into two sets of composite leads. Although, the installer left one of them free. I have tried plugging them in to various connections in various ways but it makes no difference. My receiver is a Yamaha HTR-5050. My LG tv has two input and two sets of output jacks plus one on the side. I use the two inputs jacks plus the one on the side. I don't know what the output ones are for.

  First, connect your OPTICAL OUTPUT from your Cable box directly into the OPTICAL INPUT on your reciever (if you have them, if not then forget it, it's only stereo) Then connect the COMPONENT (5 wire) leads from the cable box directly to your DVD Recorder.... Then connect the COMPONENT OUTput from your DVD recorder directly into the TV's COMPONENT INPUT..... Ooops.....there's the problem. You don't have Component INPUTS on your old TV set.... I think you should get a new HDTV set with 3 HDMI connectors and 2 COMPONENT input connectors on it.... NOW THAT would definitely fix your cable problems.....
