What is a HD dvd?

Hi what in my going to do with my Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on player?

  • Hi I bought my Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on player since day one & it cost me $180.99. I remember long time that my dad he supported VHS & was happy that VHS won over against BETA. Now me with my HD-DVD & HD-DVD is losing "big time" of the format war because stupid Warner Brothers,Netflix & Bestbuy. I was thinking buying the PS3 since I am a gamer & movie watcher. What should I do with my HD-DVD? What are you going to do with your HD-DVD player???

  • Answer:

I don't believe this battle is over yet. Blue ray has just taken the advantage at the moment. You have to keep in mind many other larger companies have invested a great deal of time and money into HDDVD as well. I too have the xbox360 HDDVD and I plan on hanging onto it and using it as long as possible. From what I have seen, most descent Blue ray players can also read HDDVD. Point is this, you will still be able to watch your HDDVD movies after this war is over, so I would say stick with it and not waste any more of your money while the corporate hounds fight this out. They want you to spend your money, and this war will go on as long as you are willing to do it. The quicker we, the consumers, stop flip-flopping around on the matter, the sooner one or the other will begin losing more money than its worth and give up. You have already picked a side, as have I. Although things may look bleak for HDDVD at the moment, it doesn't mean its completely over. HDDVD was doing better for a while, and now Blue ray is just getting their slice of the pie as well. This could go back and forth for a while. I for one hope HDDVD comes out on top. Its simply more price-efficient for the average consumer.

Keep it. One day you'll be able to buy HD-DVDs for pennies on the dollar, or find them used at the flea market for literally pennies. I still have a running stereo Super Beta (last time I checked anyway) and I have tapes that still haven't been released on VHS or DVD. Speaking of which, I have the Angela Lansbury original Sweeney Todd that never released on VHS and was finally released on DVD when the revival opened on Broadway a couple years ago. Anyone have Fritz Lang's Metropolis with the Moroder sound track on DVD? All I can find is with the remastered original sound track. I also have a working Dolby Digital Laser Disc Player. I recently found several discs in excellent condition for $1.00 each. They look and sound like DVDs. In case you're wondering, I did retire my 8 track player. ;o)
