I need amp for my speaker system.

What kind of speaker/preamp system do I need for an AT-LP60 Turntable?

  • I just got an audio technica AT-LP60 turntable (vinyl records) that I need to get hooked up with a decent speaker system. Any speaker recommendations? Also, I already have a Yamaha EMX 62M amp, would I need a preamp to go into this system? Do you also need a preamp to go into an LP-dedicated set of speakers?

  • Answer:

You connect your turntable to the Yamaha mixer (EMX 64M) and then you will need a power amplifier to connect that to and then connect the speaker to the power amplifier. Stand alone power amplifier are mainly for the higher end of the audio. You can however go to Best Buy with a musical instrument department and find a power amplifier that DJ use. Or you can find a receiver that has a phono line input. Hope this will help you out.

You need an amp with either an inboard or outboard phono preamp. Your Yamaha unit is not an amplifier, it is a mixer. Shame on whoever sold you this without educating you.
