How can i make my sub woofer stronger?

Can I make a single RCA sub-woofer cable using speaker wire?

  • Here's my situation. I have an ENERGY Sub-woofer that takes either R/L speaker wire, or an RCA single jack as input. My sub woofer has an amp built in (it plugs into the wall). However the sub doesn't have R/L output terminals. I have a Pioneer ELITE receiver and want to connect my sub woofer to it. The sub-woofer is on opposite end of the room. I cant run a wire direct, and my speaker manual suggests using the receiver Front L and Front R terminals to send a signal to the sub. My condo is wired for 7.0 surround. I have speaker wire in wall with 2 wires coming out behind the sub woofer. I can easily use the R/L as input however there is no output so I don't want to connect the subwoofer at the expense of my front speakers. My question: Is there a way to covert the existing speaker wires in my wall to connect to the RCA sub-in jack of my sub-woofer? I CANNOT run a new wire without re-painting and tearing some drywall, which im not willing to do at the moment. I don't need the woofer powered by the receiver, I just need the signal to come through the speaker wire. If anyone knows if this can be done Id appreciate some help. Any assistance is appreciated.

  • Answer:

You can't do it with the existing wiring. The wire going to the sub's RCA input would have to be shielded, or else all you will get is hum.
