Why don't I get sound out of my Xbox?

HD picture and surround sound on xbox 360?

  • I think I already know the answer, but I want to know if I can have HD picture on my HDTV with stereo sound coming through my panasonic audio system when playing my xbox 360. I usually just use my hdmi cord when I dont want the thunderous booms from my stereo. But when I want my walls shaking, I plug in that xbox component cable that came with it and the six various colored Plugs on the other side, the R/G/B to my TV for video, and the red and white into my stereo. 480p on my tv though just looks bad. So is there any way I can get the best of both worlds, and still use my stereo sound? Or is stereo sound a thing of the past and hdmi is the present, and they arent compatible? Analog vs video? Is that the issue? Do i have to buy surround sound to utilize both picture and sound? And then, maybe you guys could suggest a setup for my xbox360 and my toshiba 32" 720p LCD tv (I would like something bigger and better, but Im only in highschool and have no job). Thanks!

  • Answer:

Connect HDMI from Xbox to TV for video then red & white cables from Xbox to sound system for audio.
