Which subwoofer is better?

Which is better Home subwoofer for Music? a 10'' subwoofer or a 12'' one?

  • I have been looking at both the Boston Acoustics HPS 10SE (10'' Subwoofer) and the Boston Acoustics HPS 12HO (12'' Subwoofer), some people are saying that in general 10'' subwoofers are better for music because they respond better. but at the same time the 12'' one is better for movies because they have better LFE effects, what are the LFE effects, and can someone explain what does it mean that it responds better for me please? Thanks Any help is appreciated

    Bigger is not necessarily better. It is true that the bigger the speaker cone the deeper the bass, but a smaller one will react more quickly. However the overall performance of the subwoofer also depends a lot on the cabinet technology, from its dimensions to the frequency response of the amplifier. There are so many factors to consider that just going by spec sheets is not good enough. You need to actually listen to both, and let your own ears decide.
