How to hook up a sound system?

How can i hook up my sound system to my tv?

  • the sound system has only two jacks one says 'dvd in" red and white and the other one is aux in red and white i want to hook it up with my tv so that no matter what i watch on it, the should would come from the surround sound system. i can successfully hook just one of any device (dvd, xbox etc.) but i can not hook everything.

The best way with the components you have to work with is to use your TV's audio out to your sound system's aux in. Otherwise, if you want more flexability, you will need to get either an A/V preamplifier or a A/V switcher. H a p p y H o m e T h e a t e r i n g !

First I would say hook the surround sound system up and then use video cables to hook it up to youre dvd sys. then use the other red, white, and yellow cable to hook up to youre tv and its that simple!!

There are various signal splitting devices you can purchase for this. The more you pay the more intact the signal quality at the end will be. Also your DVD player may allow for you to pass an audio signal through it depending on jacks.

If your TV has a bunch of inputs...That is, MORE than your surround system has...Then you can run EVERYTHING into the TV first...Then just run one set of "red and white" RCA cables from the TV to the stereo and you'll still have an extra input left open. Of course, if your TV doesn't have enough inputs, you'll need a switcher...Click this link for an idea of what I mean: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=180-932
