Why won't my computer speakers work on my TV?

Is there an adapter that will allow my computer speakers to connect to my tv that has digital audio?

  • I dont know the terms so I'll try my best to explain. I have these speakers and subwoofer that are made for connection to a computer. The speakers connect to the sub, and there's one cable that connects to the audio port on my laptop. I have an "adapter" that allows me to connect that cable to my dvd player. So I can watch movies (or play videogames) on my tv while using the speakers, however, when I'm watching television channels, the speakers dont work. Is there some kind of adapter that will allow me to hook that audio cable to digital output on my tv? Thanks.
