Why doesn't my projector work?

• I need some help getting an image onto my projector from my sony vaio laptop. I have a VGA to RCA cable for the connections (the projector only has an RCA input) but all I get when I turn the projector on is a blue screen. I have tried every setting on both the computer and the projector but still no picture. When I try to set the computer to "projector only" on the screen toggle, my vaio says that it cannot detect a projector at all. The computer is a vaio VPCEC4L1E and the projector is a sharpvision XV-320p. Any help would be much appreciated.

  VGA to RCA cables do not work.
