Hooking up a home theatre speaker system without drilling holes in my wall?

How can I mount speakers without drilling holes in my wall?

  • I live in a dorm room where we're not allowed to drill holes in the walls (pin hole sized holes are fine, though). My speakers have a mount already attached with which you could just screw the speakers directly into a stud if you wanted. Is there any way for me to get my speakers on the wall without drilling holes? Each speaker weighs about 5-10 lbs. I heard about some sort of load bearing wire that you'd stick into the wall and hang a speaker from, but I haven't been able to find any such thing.

  • Answer:

Use push pin picture hangers, they can handle up to 30 lbs. Attach a loop of picture wire to each speaker. http://www.hardwareandtools.com/invt/4259818 You can find them at any home improvement store. You may want to get some adhesive rubber or felt bumpers too, to prevent the speakers from buzzing against the walls and wearing off the paint.

One method uses a sound bar speaker mount that attaches to a pre-existing wall mount. It sound like that might work for you.
