A universal remote question?

Need Help With New Universal Remote (Newbie Question)?

  • I have never had or needed a universal remote until recently. I bought a 3 device RCA Universal Remote and well.....I am so confused. I need to make it work with my RCA television and my Sylvania DVD/VCR (the old fashioned kind with the coaxial antenna in for cable). I would like to be able to record television shows with the vcr but the instructions are confusing. Here is what the manual says: "TIPS: Each device key is associated with a type of device— the TV is preset to search for TVs, SAT•CBL•DTC for satellite receivers, cable boxes or digital TV converters (DTC), and DVD•VCR for DVD players. To program a device key for a different type of device (for example, to program the DVD•VCR key to control a PVR or VCR), see the Reassigning the DVD•VCR Key to Control a VCR section." "The DVD•VCR key defaults to control a DVD player. If you want the DVD•VCR key to control a VCR, you must reassign it." Do I need to do this to record with the vcr?

  • Answer:

i don't understand what the problem is.... you need ot read the section about vcrs...as stated in the directions... since most dvd players dont' record, if you want to record using a vcr, you need to have vcr recording programmed into the remote using the vcr programming instrucitons.. what exactly is the problem?
