What is the best resolution to set my DVD player at for my HDTV?
-
I just got an upconverting DVD player/surround sound. I'm still waiting on the HDMI cable in the mail because I figured waiting on a 2 dollar cable is financially better than a 40 dollar cable right then and there at the store. In the meantime, however, I was wondering what resolution should I set it to. My TV in my bedroom where the surround sound is, is a 20 inch 720p TV. However, the resolution isn't exactly 720. If I am correct, the resolution is something more like 1440x900.. So really it's right between 720p and 1080p. In that case, would I be better off putting it on 720p and letting the TV upscale it to 900p or to 1080i/p and letting it scale it down to 900p? I plan on getting a blu ray player too, so even outside the scaling DVDs which would be better for blu ray?
