Best Music System that is better then Bose?

Bose Wave Music System?

  • I am thinking of buying a Bose Wave Music System with a radio. I am wondering if it is a high quality player or not. Also, does it have an alarm? Here is a link: http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_PRODUCT_PAGE_EVENT&product=wrcd_wave_index

  • Answer:

Hi. Bose is generally agreed to be below average when it comes to buying their products for home theater speakers. But the bottom line is if you like the sound of a particular set of speakers then that is all that matters.Try to listen to the Bose set up to see if you can live with the sound. Also ,be aware that when you hear the sound from any speakers in the showroom or store it is not going to sound the same at home. But you can get a rough idea to help you decide. Try to listen to as many brands as possible in your price range in case you like something better.

I don't think the price is warranted. The sound quality is reminiscent of a unit priced at $100 US. I do not like the way Bose is run as a company. For the price you mentioned you can get a smoking micro system or a start to a great separates system. The micro systems take up even less space than the Bose and perform much better. Even the JVC systems sound much better! Don't fall for the hype Bose creates and really choose a system based on performance not form. Remember Form follows function.

Bose is WAY overpriced in my opinion. $3 worth of parts, packaged all prety and sold for 50 times the cost to make it. The basics are that Bose spends 15 times more money on marketing than they do on enginneering and product development. When you walk into a Best Buy, Circuit City, etc., you can usually go into a demo room and with the flick of a switch, listen to 3-6 different sets of surround speakers choosing which ever one sounds best to you. You will never see Bose set up this way. Reason being, they will not allow it, because they KNOW that their products are overpriced and undervalued. Bose - marketing geniuses.

I have the BOSE Wave Music System. The Sound Is Decent but the sound is okay. I have a RCA Audio System and it sounds just as good. It should have an alarm as mine does. Many of my speakers are from BOSE. And Overall I think your paying for the Logo. Good Luck

Unless you are getting paid for it - like the people in the commercials - you will not get overly excited. Best sound from table radio I heard is the Henry Kloss design, now manufactured by a number of people, including Tivoli. And I think it has an alarm too.... http://www.tivoliaudio.com/categories.php

I've heard the Wave Music System. It sounds like a good boom box. The only thing somewhat unique about it is the wave chamber that allows for a little lower bass response. I don't know what the return rate is now but at one time Wave Radios had a 40% return rate (and Bose still made a hefty profit on selling them!). Their product is marketed so well that many people are surprised to discover that Bose is considered a low end product by audiophiles. The products others have mentioned here (the small JVC mini-stereos and the Cambridge Soundworks table radios [Henry Kloss]) actually do sound better for less money.

Forget about Bose. This company uses marketing hype to jack up the prices. I would look for something else.
