What is wrong with my Surround Sound?

What is wrong with my 5.1 surround sound receiver?

  • I have a RCA RTD317W home THEATRE System and when i play dvds or have a Appliance playing through the optical in everything works fine. but when i have to run audio through the red and white jacks(for my XBOX), the speakers will only play when there is alot of sound coming from the XBOX. For example, if you are playing a hunting game on the XBOX and you start out on a Level which normally has alot of background nose(like birds singing and the sound of a distant river)but there is no sound coming from the speakers. but when a bear growls near you or you fire of the gun, you will get the background noise until the commotion is all over. this also happens with the Audio--in on the front Then... nothing. if you think you might know what the problem is please comment. I need help.

  • Answer:

You may need to activate the stereo setting on your receiver when using the red/white audio input. I know on my receivers that they all have a stereo setting even tho they are surround receivers. The stereo setting tells your receiver to send all the channels out the two front speakers and it should work better.
