How do I hook up surround sound?

How do I hook my XBox 360 and Cable to Surround Sound?

  • I am having problems hooking my Comcast HD DVR Receiver and XBox 360 up to my Samsung surround sound system via HDMI cables. My TV has 4 HDMI IN connections, my Surround Sound player, XBOX, and Cable box have 1 HDMI out connections. I have my BluRay (Surround sound system) hooked into my HDTV HDMI 2 port. This works just fine with the surround sound system on the AUX channel. I get nice crisp surround sound from all 5 speakers. I connected my Xbox hdmi cable into the TV HDMI 3 port.. I only get Picture and can only get sound if i switch the setting to TV sound (surround sound doesn't work even on AUX channel) and its the same thing with cable. The only way I get sound is with the settings set on TV Speakers. I have my cable box HDMI cable plugged into my TV HDMI 1 outlet. I had it working before, I do not know what my kids did to mess it up... but somehow I need my Cable, Xbox 360 (the newer one with the HDMI port) to work with my surround sound. Any help before I pay Geek Squad.

  • Answer:

Connect optical cable ( surround sound ) or red & white cables ( stereo ) from Xbox and Comcast receiver to sound system for audio.
