How to hook computer speaker system to surround sound theater system?

  • Got a compaq 7200 and the computer speakers that came with it has a USB connector as well as the speaker plug. I've tried to "rig" a speaker line from computer to surround sound system but no sound. Does anyone know how to bypass this USB situation so I can listen to media player through my surround sound system?

    well there is not anyway to bypass the usb some newer surround systems have a place to plug the usb cord in for computers but for your situation you could use a connectort like this it is made for ipod but you can plug it in your headphone jack on your computer and then plug it in to your radio or surround i will give you a link this is a more expensive one but they have a cheaper one for like 10 dollars at walmart in the ipod accessories section or with the headphones but the cheaper one is not available online only in the store http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3579191 the cheaper one is black the same length and made by Belkin

Yes. Go to any Radio Shack, Electronics store, hi-fi shop, portable hi-fi shop and ask the salesperson this question: "Do you have an 1/8" stereo mini-plug to left and right RCA plug?" The headphone output from your computer is an 1/8" mini jack to and Auxilliary (Aux) on the back of your home theater receiver, etc.. The 1/8" mini plug to left and right RCA plu is sold in 3' and 6' lengths and you can easily purchase extenions cables to make them longer. You can use the same mini-plug to connnect your old walkman cassette, discman, or any stereo gear with an 1/8" mini output. Happy Listening! Philip
