When my surround sound system is on mode "AUX", sound only comes out of one speaker. How can I fix that?
-
Ok, so I recently bought a Philips surround sound system from walmart. I was a bit skeptical buying from walmart, but I looked online, and it had rave reviews, and I heard it in the store, and it sounded amazing for under $250. In fact, it sounds every bit as good as my friends' Bose system that costs over $1000. The only problem I have with the system is when I play my Xbox through the AUX mode, sound only comes out of the left front speaker. Is there any way I can fix this? If not, can I buy anything that will allow me to play my Xbox through it without it going through the AUX mode? - Thanks!

Answer:
There's a couple issues that may be coming up: ... The XBOX may be outputting audio in mono. If that's the case, you'll need to split the signal using a balanced splitter to get two-speaker operation. Alternatively, look in you XBOX system settings to see if the audio mode is set for mono. If so, switch it to stereo. ... The cable from the XBOX to your phillips system may be failing. Try plugging in a different cable from the XBOX to your system to see if that resolves it. ... The inputs inside your Phillips unit may be bad. There's really no way to diagnose this easily, except to try a different (and known to be working) combination of audio cable and source device. If you know for a fact that the combo you plug in your system works somewhere else, and you still get one speaker performance, it's probably a bad input. ... You may have inadvertently setup the system wrong, and for some reason the right front speaker isn't configured properly. Based on my past experiences, the problem is PROBABLY in the Xbox settings or a faulty cable. Good luck!
