How do I hook up surround sound to an xbox 360 and hdtv?

So I have an xbox 360 elite, samsung 1000 Wat 5.1 surround sound system, and a Vizio 32 inch HDTV 1080p. I want to know how to hook up surround sound to my xbox 360 while getting HD and sound. I don't want to use the cables with red,green,blue,yellow etc. unless I have to. Just makes it more confusing for me. My surround sound system only has a port for hdmi (OUTPUT) and also one for optical audio and the regular red,green,yelow etc cables. My tv has inputs and outputs (i guess? I know it has 3 of them) for hdmi. It also has an optical audio and hdcp jack. I want to know where to connect the hdmi cable from 360 to ? and then the other hdmi? And the optical audio to? Please be specific because I am really new at this and cannot really understand the other instructions i have found on the net and on yahoo answers.
