Onkyo HT-SR800 HDMI output not working?

  • Hi there, I have a onkyo ht- sr800 AV receiver as well as the onkyo DVD. I have plug cables as follow: AV receiver: - HDMI out -> TV HDMI-in - DVD HDMI out -> AV receiver HDMI1 in - DVD digital audio out -> AV receiver Digital in 1 - DVD Video-out(yellow) -> AV receiver DVD video-in(yellow) - DVD Audio-out (red/white) -> AV receiver DVD audio-in(red/white) I did the receiver/setup/video input/dvd hdmi1 steps, but my LCD (1080p) says "Incompatible mode", but if I connect my dvd hdmi out directly to my lcd hdmi input then it works. can anyone help me here, I need to get my HT-SR800 HDMI output work. Regards,

Hi Carlos Many low end receivers don't process HDMI digital audio and unfortunately yours is one of these. this is because of whats called (HDMI V1.3 Pass Through) You will have to run a digital cable for your DVD player. You did however run unnecessary cables in your hookup. The Red and White audio cables are one pair and the yellow video cables is also unnecessary. The problem sounds more like you might have the HDMI cables hooked up backwards at the reciever or one of the HDMI cables are bad. Try checking them one by one from the DVD player. If all this still doesn't help. You might have a bad reciever. I hope this helps.

HDMI can carry BOTh audio and video, so you have lots of duplicate connections. Remove: DVD digital audio out DVD video out (yellow) DVD audio out (RCA) Just connect DVD HDMI out to AVR HDMI in AVR HDMI out to TV HDMI in
