How good of a sound system could i get for $1000?

Sound output is low on Sony 279W 1000W Theatre System?

  • I recently purchased a Sony 279W 1000 watts Theatre System 5.1 with wireless rear speakers. My output source is an HD DVR satellite box. I actually have two problems. First, the volume seems to be low for a 1000 watts system. I can turn the volume up to the max and it isn't that loud. Second problem is when I switch the TV to play video games, I get no sound from the theatre system, only from the TV. The system I replaced (Akai) was only 250 watts and was louder than this one. What have I done wrong that is affecting the volume?

  • Answer:

The problem is you bought a system that over rates it's output the 1000 watt is not accurate. The home theaters in a box are almost always underpowered as for your second problem you need a separate audio connection from your video game to an input on your stereo use optical if it is available on both pieces of equipment. P.S. switch your system to the tunner mode if you get a lot more sound then you may have a input problem from your Sat. box
