Can we connect an AV input to an HDMI output?

HDMI, A & B what is the difference? how do i connect a B output to an A input?

  • i just bought a HDMI 1.3b Version High-Speed 10.2GPS cable to Connect from my PS3 to my Optoma HD800VLV projector, but rather than running two cables to the projector (one from A/V and one from PS3) i also want to use the same one for both, but my A/V receiver has a type A terminal, how do i Connect type A with type B? is it possable? thank you Ross

First Ross, there is no such thing as a "Type B" HDMI cable. If you are referring to the b in the label HDMI 13.b, that isn't what it is referring to. This labeling is referring to the bandwidth of the cable, not the connections at either end. There is a Type C HDMI connector, which is basically a mini-HDMI and there are males and females of each. The devices which have a Type C connector are usually movie cameras and things where smallness is really important. Here is what the female of a regular type a and a type c looks like: http://www.megapixel.net/reviews/sony-dslra700/gfx/a700-connections2.jpg Here is the male side of a Type A and a Type C. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/items/481678.jpg They have adapters between sizes http://www.lindy.co.uk/lindyshop/pictures/41235big.jpg and you can buy cables with a type a on one end and a type c on the other. You never made it very clear in your question what device had what type of connection. With these pictures in hand, you need to sit down and write out the connections types you are needing. Once you clearly understand what it is you need, you can buy it at a lot of places. http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240 You are right Ross, there is now a Type B. http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/hdmi-cables.html I apoligize for giving you out of date info. However, the fact your cable is V1.3 doesn't have anything to do with this. I have a blu-ray, TV, and AV system which needs the extra bandwidth and thus I have V1.3 cables... but they are all type A.
