Whats the difference between DVD's & Blue-Ray Discs?
-
Blue Rays are more expensive I was just wondering is there really a big difference between them and dvd`s
-
Answer:
Two things, really: Blu-Ray holds a lot more data, and they have a better protective coating, so resist damage better. Because they hold a lot more data, they can fit HD versions of movies on the Blu-Ray discs, taking full advantage of the high definition capabilities of modern HD TV's. If you have a HD TV, in most cases -- unless the studio was cheap and just dumped the DVD data to Blu-Ray, which I haven't heard of yet -- you should see a big difference in picture quality from DVD to Blu-Ray. If you have a standard old TV -- not a HD TV -- then you may not see much of a difference, other than additional extras often put on Blu-Ray (again, taking advantage of the extra space). Old TV's just are pretty low resolution, so you can't see much of the extra detail.

there is a big difference, in memory size. the blu ray also has way higher quality videos. and blu ray discs can hold around 50 gigs, and DVD's can only hold 4 gigs, and 7-8 for a dual layered one.

Blu-ray holds lots more data, and provides a very clean HD image on screens. But you also need a HD tv and a Blu-ray player.

They have a 1920X1080 resolution and use a blu laser in the player rather then red. You have to have a blu-ray player to play them. You can't play them in a reg. DVD player.

Physically, there is nothing different between a DVD and Blu-Ray disc. It's all in the laser that is reading the disc. A Blu-Ray player uses a laser in the "blue" wavelength which is a much narrower beam and thus has a narrower track on the disc which allows more data to be written to the disc. Therefore a larger video format/resolution can be written to a Blu-Ray disc than a DVD. Also, they can include more extras (and previews).
