What are some non-subscription DVR's?

Is there a widespread software problem with Direct TV DVRs where they will not record?

  • My dad has Direct TV and a standard TV DVR at their house. About a month ago, his DVR stopped working. It will either record with video scrambling or just a black screen. I called Direct TV for him (he has done this as well) and they claim they have a massive known issue with these DVRs. It sounds like they did a software upgrade that broke this functionality. As it was stated to me, they have "16 million users and about half of them have DVRs"...so I asked, "so 8 million of your users cant record right now?" and she said, "pretty much." I find it hard to believe that a powerhouse behind premium TV programming broke functionality for half of their customer base. If it's true, WHOOPS! According to the rep, there is no ETA on the fix. Is anyone out there with DTV having a problem as well? Has anyone heard anything about this???? It's just such a massive screw up on their end I just have a hard time believing it....

    sounds like you may have dialed a sub contractor or a telemarketer. make sure you call directv, ive installed their systems for years and have never been treated poorly

try and do a software download.. do a red button reset..then when u see the ''hello your directv reciever is starting up'' hit 0 2 4 6 8. i am not sure if this will fix your problem, but if u have and questions u can message me. let me be the first to apologize for the actions of the directv rep u spoke with. i have never heard of such a thing. i actually believe that if the software download dont work, then u have a faulty reciever, and there needs to be a replacement in order. thanx for your time..
