How do I remove recorded contents from my DVD+R disc?

HD TV To DVD+R Recorded Disc?

  • I am thinking about getting an HDTV here soon. The cable company we are subscribed to is getting a bunch of new HD channels soon. I watch a lot of fighting shows like UFC, TNA, etc. and I want to record those shows. I have a Toshiba DR410 DVD recorder to record these shows. What I want to know is if I get the 720p/1080p HD shows and record these shows onto a Sony DVD+R disc (4.7G), will I have any problems with the finished recorded disc? I know I wont get the full HD quality, but that's fine because I just want the full 16:9 picture. However, I have some questions... -Will a 120 minute blank DVD record the full 2 hours, or will it stop recording during the middle of the show because of higher resolution and of lost gigabyte? -Will the finished product be a nice clean picture, or will there be a bunch of pixels and a ugly picture? - I want to get a 720p TV. I know I wont get the 1080i picture on my TV, but will I get a 1080i picture on the DVD? Also, does a 1080i picture look better on a Sony 4.7G DVD+R disc than a 720i picture, or do they both look the same? What I am asking is if will I lose quality if I get a 720p TV. - Since these fighting shows are usually fast-paced shows, will the disc jump or skip during things like fire-works, flashing lights, etc. Thank you for everyone's help.

  • Answer:

Currently there are no DVD-based recorders that can record in HD on the market. You can plug your cable box into the DVD recorder and record as you are now, but the resulting picture won't be in HD. You'll only be able to connect your cable box to the recorder using standard AV cables, which will down-convert the HD picture to SD. The resulting picture on the DVD will be a letterboxed image in SD. The quality will be fine for SD, but it'll still only be in 480i (not even 480p). Within the next year or so we should start seeing blu-ray recorders which will use recordable blu-ray discs. However expect these to be quite expensive at first.
