How can I set up my cable box?

I have basic cable and bought a cable box on ebay. how can i set this up w/out telling the cable co.?

  • the cable box tries to set up but tells me to call the cable co. is there something i can do to bypass this? i really just want the dvr and the on screen guide

    Sorry, you can't bypass the cable company. All HDTVs do have cabl etuners, but you can't watch cable unless you have cable service!! If you have cable service, the provider has to give you a Cablecard if you ask for it. (you do pay for the service, but you don't pay for renting the set-top box).

The services you're wanting may have to be turned on by the cable company. I have Brighthouse in Central Florida and every time I've had my service changed they have to activate something on their computer.

The boxes work based on codes entered into the cable companies computer system. When you order HBO they mark off HBO you then get access to the channel and it appears on your bill. Sorry you wasted your money
