What is a Star Sat receiver?

Sat receiver, freesat or freeview hd ??

  • Hi, First i do not have or want sky tv monthly !!!! I am happy with freeview but would like a hd receiver to be used with hd telly and for world cup. Help needed as need to know if i buy a hd satellite receiver will it pick up freeview channels and also whats PVR ?? cheers.

  • Answer:

Freeview and Freesat are essentially different ways of receiving the same range of channels - Freeview via aerial, Freesat via a satellite dish. 1st - Check to see if you can recieve HD via Freeview - use this site to put in your postcode: http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/HD/Products If you can, then you'll need to buy a HD Freeview digi box - the Humax HD-FoxT2 is as good as any. If you can't get HD Freeview then you should be able to get HD via Freesat - but you will need to have a dish installed, and by a HD Freesat box. A PVR is a personal digital recorder. The HD Freeview box mentioned above does not record TV - think of a PVR as like your old video recorder, except it records the progrmmes on to an internal hard disk.

Other answers

Freeview and Freesat are not compatible. A PVR is a personal video recorder, but using a hard drive. Important feature to look for is a twin tuner, so that you can record one channel, while watching another.
