How to hook car amp/sub in home?

Can i hook up a car reciever up as a home reciever?

  • I have no home stereo reciever so i was want to use my cd player from my car. i guess i would need a power converter, and would i be able to use my home theater speakers instead of car speakers?

You probably can use it. You'll need a 12 volt DC power supply of some kind. An old laptop power supply *might* do it, but they have many different voltages, so be sure to get a 12 V one of sufficient amperage to power your car radio. The speaker hookup should work as long as you watch the impedance. In general, you shouldn't use lower impedance speakers than your car had. The unit is likely to be kinda ugly unless you get a case around it. You might want to check at Goodwill or Salvation Army to see if they have a used stereo receiver. Prices can be very cheap there.

Not sure that is a great idea... the time that you will spend trying to get it to work and the trouble it will cause... you're probably better off going out and buying a new receiver that you can hook up to some nice speakers. If you don't want to buy a new receiver because of the cost, then I'd look for a used one. KM http://www.myhometheatersecrets.com
