How to get cable stations back?

How do I get my VCR to tape "digital" stations brought in through Cable?

  • This Panasonic VCR is old (2005) not ancient, it has a Digital tuner. However, they never imagined the system changeover. All my channels, digital & otherwise come in thru Comcast cable. I have been told that there IS a way of re-programming the channels. DOES ANYBODY KNOW? I thank you in advance!

  • Answer:

Yes, this should be possible, but how you set it up depends on whether or not you have a cable box. If you don't have a cable box, set it up this way: 1. Get a splitter for the coaxial (thick) cable. 2. Connect the cable from the wall to the middle (input) plug on the splitter 3. Connect the other splitter plugs to the VCR and the TV 4. Connect A/V cables from the VCR to the TV (red & white RCA cables for audio, and either yellow RCA cable or S-Video cable for video - S-video is better if you have the choice) 5. To watch the VCR, set your TV to the video input you just hooked up in step 4 6. Tell the VCR to scan for channels, make sure you choose the mode that will scan for cable and digital (if you aren't sure, try auto) With the above setup: - You can record one channel on the VCR, and watch a different one on the TV. - To record on the VCR, set its input to the channel you want to record, and start recording. If you do have a cable box: (This only works if the cable box has more than one way to output video and audio) 1. Connect the higher quality set of cable box outputs to your TV's input (for instance, HDMI or component) 2. Connect the other set of cable box outputs to the VCR's input (for instance S-video or regular yellow video) 3. Connect the VCR's output to the TV following step 4 above, and set the TV to that input when you want to watch the VCR. With the above setup: - While you're recording on the VCR, you can't watch a different channel on the TV. - To record on the VCR, set it to record from the input that connects it to the cable box (not from a channel), and set the cable box to the channel you want to record, and start recording.
