What should I look for when buying a DVD recorder?

Which would be better- buying a dvd recorder to transfer my Sony hi8 mm tapes over to dvd or...?

• ...can I do this on my comp? I was thinking about buying the Samsung dvd recorder model# vr-375 at Circuit City. Or, If I could do this on the computer, what would I need? My camcorder is a Sony digital Handycam DCR-TRV 140 NTSC and this still works. I need a recorder to record on DVD -R, so that puts the Sony Recorder out, they only use dvd +r. Any suggestions, comments?? Please help! I need basic instr. if I could do this on my computer. Thanks.

  I'm using a Samsung r120 which is at least 6 years old and it works great. It plays cd-r also in the mp3 format. Just check out exactly what discs to use plus you will be able to edit it as you record. As far as mine being used for a dvr, the channels only go up to 125 but the newer ones might let you add higher channels. I feel the recorder would be easier than the cpu.
