How to move my satellite receiver?

Recieving Hotbird and Astra satellite?

  • I have a twin LNB on a fixed dish, with my old Receiver it picked up both and now with my new one it picks up Astra very well but can't catch hotbird. I do a satellite scan for hotbird but it only finds 11 out of hundreds of channels. Any ideas? I have moved the dish slightly but can't get astra and hotbird from one fixed point, can only get hotbird if I move the dish (then I lose astra) thanks for any advice.

    Having to be able to get some, suggests that your receiver needs recalibrating, check out the transponder frequency ie 11.604 the polarisation H. H horizontal V vertical, the forward error correction FEC 5/6 and symbol rate say 27500 that will get you ten stations alone. Go online to Lyngsat as it gives all the up to date listings as the Satellite magazine "What Satellite "is about two months out of date with the information,do not forget to aim the dish to Hot bird at 13 degrees East As with a twin LNB you have to aim at the weaker of the two birds, then recalibrate.

I bought a dish tried to align it myself, finished up paying £46 for a professional to align dish who told me that a fixed dish will only pick up whatever it is aligned to,astra for example,if you wanted to watch hotbird and others you would need a motorised dish which is controlled by the receiver,

No reason why you cannot get both, as I have. Seems to be that they are not aligned properly. If you get a single monoblock LNB, it has twin LNB's set 6 degrees apart, so you can pick up both satellites, without too much fiddling. Also has diseqc built in.
