I'm looking for a DVD recorder with HDMI upscaling. I have a 1080i tv but does the recorder need be 1080i?
-
I see that the majority of DVD recorders have HDMI upscaling of 1080p. Does anybody know if p and i would be interchangeable or do I need a 1080i dvd recorder?

Answer:
Look at the Panasonic range. They do 1080i upscaling by default (via the HDMI interface) and they don't use confusing salesman's puff involving non-applicable standards. The upscaling works very well too,

you can go with the 1080p if you want. It will just be displayed as 1080i on your tv. Might as well go with 1080i since it will probably be cheaper.

Most devices show the resolution they can display up to. If you go into the options, they let you choose what res you need, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.
