How can I speed up a download?

How can I download information to my TiVo without a computer/high speed connection (and no land line)?

  • Weird situation, but here it goes...I moved out of my apartment, but my ex-roommate kept the TV. I took the computer (we had Comcast high speed Internet). Now, it's telling her that the TiVo can't download the schedule information and all of that because it's not hooked up to the high speed anymore. How can I fix this without bringing my entire computer back to the apartment? I should also mention that we don't have a land line, so hooking up to that isn't an option. If I were to take her TiVo, bring it to my house and hook it up to my TV/computer, would that work? She's only going to be in the apartment until the end of August, so one info upload might carry her through the end of the month. Worst case scenario is that she lives without TiVo for two weeks, but I'd like to make it work if I can. Thanks!

You can certainly bring her TiVo to your house and let it latch onto your ethernet connection. Should be very straight forward to do.

If the Tivo is a Series 2 or better than all you need to do is adjust the network option to use DHCP and connect it directly to the cable modem. This bypasses the PC completely and allows the Tivo to update without having to haul all that extra equipment with you. Tivo Series 1 with after-market modifications can also do this but without a PC connection to use BASH this is a bit tricky.
