Can i use a tivo with cable?

I just got cable for my home...I have never had it before I always had satelite service. The big downfallis that the DVR they provide stinks in comparison to satelite and uverse...although service is much cheaper. So my question is, if I bought a Tivo can I just hook it up to my cable line or do I have to have a cable card with it? Also..if I were to use a cable filter on my Tivo would it work instead of using the cable card?

You can use nearly any standalone TiVo model with cable. I would reccomend a "Premiere" mdel these days, once they are available for sale, bit a TiVo HD is fine. You will need a cablecard to get the most of one of those models.

You should use a cable card. The cable card slides into the TiVo in the front. The connection to the cable service doesn't change no matter if you use a cable card or not. If you guy an HD TiVo, you will get HD channels that come with your digital cable package. Your first cable card is free as long as you don't use a cable box with another TV. You must have your cable company install the cable card. Also, buy the life time membership with the TiVo. It costs a lot up front, but it saves money over time.

You can simply hook it up if you just have basic cable, but you need the cable card if you have a better package.
