Can i Use A DirecTV DVR with no service?

Ok i have a Directv HD DVR reciver and i just ended my contract and i made a new contract with cabe. now the question is Can i use the directv HD DVR as just a DVR with my cable service (no cable box)?

nope and unless you bought the dvr, i believe Directv is going to want it back
