How to record on the PS3 with DVD recorder?

DVD recorder, disks won't play.?

  • We have a DVD recorder which we have never used, i have no idea where it came form but has been here for a while. It works fine, I have my PS3 hooked up to atm. I put in a disk (Sony DVD-R) and it loads it, I select HQ for recording and select record. I played a short video of a trailer and then hit stop which goes to finalizing the disk only takes about 20 seconds or so since the video wasn't long. Then it comes up to this menu that has my recorded video and shows how long it is. I can't click anything but play and it plays the recorded video. I eject it and put it in my computer to see if it works and auto-play doesn't even come up. I go to my computer and it still shows there is no disk in drive. (however other disks work fine). So i thought I would try my PS3. I put it in there and the PS3 makes a odd sound that scared me, like the disk fell in it or something (which didn't happen) then it made the sound like it is ejecting it, however it didn't. So I ejected it my self for fear of messing up the PS3. I have tried to burn disk twice and the same thing both times. However I use these disks a lot to back up music and things like that and they work fine with my computer and PS3. However when I put the disk back in the Video recorder that menu comes up again showing whats on the disk and when I click play it plays. Just won't on any other players. Anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be great, thanks.

  • Answer:

It sure sound like the disk in NOT finalized.. It should take a minute or two to finalize a disk. I would put the disk back in the recorder and go into the DVD menu functions and see if there is a finalize option. If so finalize the disk again. For a test try and record at the default speed (quality) and see if that works.

You may have formatted the disc in VR mode rather than Video mode before you recorded on it.Many DVD players will not play a VR formatted disc, while many PCs will.
