What is wrong with my Comcast Universal DVR remote?

What DVR box can I use with Comcast?

  • I no longer want to rent the comcast cable boxes. I own my own modem, so is there any way to do that with cable boxes? Can I buy a non comcast dvr box and use it with comcast service. And return my other 2 DVR boxes back to comcast? I would save $30 a month!

  • Answer:

The only way really is with a TiVo HD/Premiere (which you need to subscribe to the TiVo service as well), and rent a Cablecard and pay appropriate fees for it, or build a PC based DVR with an HD-Homerun with Cablecard or a Ceton Cablecard tuner board. If it is totally about saving money, I think you would find it very hard.

Other answers

You can get a TIvo or a Moxi - Moxi has NO monthly fees. Tivo has monthly fees. You still need to pay for a CableCard, but should be much cheaper than getting the full box.
