Whats wrong with my dvd recorder?

• hi all, my panasonic dvd recorder has a malfunction, when i switch it on all it doe's is self check say's good-bye and switches off then fires up again saying hello and goes through this self check then switches off and then goe's through it all again and again and again, it doe's not throw up any fault codes, i have tried unplugging from the mains power and leaving it for an hour then plugging it in again but just goe's through all this self check thing over and over again, i have noticed though over this past couple of weeks that when playing a dvd it sometimes clunks as if the disc has some dust on it but when checked all disc's are clean, has any-one got a clue what's happening with my machine, oh, it's only 2 1/2 years old and has had the laser eye cleaned only a week ago. thanks, rick.

  Sounds like the laser has been knocked out of alignment when cleaning. It will not track a DVD then and will try to reset its self over and over
