Is Verizon better than DirecTV?

Can you compare Verizon Fios TV to Directv? Especially DVR?

  • We've had Directv for years, but cannot get HD coverage because of trees in our yard. We already have Verizon for our internet, home phone and cell phones. I know there were problems with Fios' DVR, but it seems (according to sales rep) they've addressed problems. Current receiver holds 128 hours of regular programming and they've addressed problem of season pass issues. What has your experience been? Thanks in advance!!

    I have the Fios multiroom DVR and it works great. I have not experienced any major issues at all. You can even use your Verizon cell phone to manage your DVR.

I've had Fios for my computer and phone service for over a year and just added the TV service with the DVR two months ago. I am very happy with my Fios service. The DVR has had only one minor glitch, so far, and that was to do with graphics that stayed on the screen to long. Verizon was able to correct this with a simple re-set. Without sounding like a commercial, My computer speeds are markedly faster and the TV service is sharper. Make sure that the Verizon service you have at home is set up for fiber optic as this is what Fios is. You have to have your house wired for fiber optic since it is a new service and not something that Verizon just turns on.

Go for it. I love the Fios system and have had no problems with the DVR. Make sure your house is wired for the Fiber Optics through Verizon. This is what Fios is and is seperate from other Verizon services. It took the installer about half a day to wire my house for 3 rooms with TV and a 4th room for the computer. The phones just plugged right in. The HD is sharp on the big screen and on my older non-HD sets it still looks great.
